Bottomless vs. Spouted

This product — Bottomless: open bottom with no spouts, so you can watch the espresso flow directly from the basket during extraction. It is the best tool for checking and improving your technique — spot channeling, uneven distribution or grind issues in real time. Requires consistent puck prep (grind size, dose, tamp) for a clean extraction.

Spouted (separate listing): has one or two spouts that direct the coffee into your cup. Traditional, cleaner look, and more forgiving if your grind or tamp is slightly off. Good choice for everyday, no-fuss brewing.

The bottomless portafilter is specially designed for checking the coffee extraction process. It is normal for liquid to spray or splash from the bottom when the coffee granules are too coarse — uneven distribution or the wrong dose can also cause spray. The bottomless design makes it easy to find these problems through the flow, so you can improve your espresso-making skills step by step. When all steps are done correctly, coffee with a beautiful color flows out evenly from the center of the filter during extraction.

Quality & Care

Easy to clean: the handle head and basket are detachable — rinse under running water, no hard-to-reach areas.

Wooden handle care: the handle is not painted, only finished with wood wax oil. Color may naturally fade over time — apply wood wax oil periodically to restore its shine. Do NOT put the wooden handle in a dishwasher or soak it; wipe with a damp cloth and air dry.

FAQ

Q: After installation, the portafilter won't lock tightly / leaks water / sprays from the side?
First check if the machine's gasket is worn or deformed — replace it if necessary (most common cause). Then check: 1) grind size too coarse (grind finer); 2) insufficient dose (16-18g); 3) uneven distribution or tamp; 4) whether the portafilter is fully locked (some machines need rotating further to the 4-5 o'clock position). If the issue persists, contact us.

Q: Coffee sprays or splits into multiple streams during extraction?
Spraying is usually caused by uneven grind, clumps in the coffee bed, or an uneven tamp — it is not a product defect. Use a WDT tool to break up clumps and tamp evenly.

Q: Why is there little or no crema?
Crema depends on bean freshness (best 2-4 weeks after roast), grind size (like granulated sugar), extraction pressure and dose. A non-pressurized basket does not create artificial crema — use fresh, high-quality beans and proper technique.

Q: What dose is the basket?
It is a double-shot non-pressurized basket. Recommended dose is 16-18g. You may adjust according to your taste.

Q: How do I clean the portafilter?
